Hold a light along a freshly painted wall at a low angle. Every nail hole that was filled but not sanded flush, every ridge of dried compound, every gap where trim meets plaster will show up as a shadow. Paint does not hide any of that — a fresh coat, especially in a sheen, makes it more visible than it was before.
So prep starts with finding it. We go over the surfaces with you: holes, cracks and dents, failed caulk, glossy patches that will reject a new coat, bare areas where a previous repair was never sealed. Each gets treated differently, and knowing which is which before anything is opened is what keeps a job from stalling halfway through.
Then the work itself. Holes and cracks filled and sanded back flush, so a hand run across the wall feels one continuous plane. Gaps at trim, baseboards, frames and corners caulked, so the line between two surfaces reads as one clean joint instead of a dark seam. And primer over every repair and every bare or problem area, so the topcoat meets a surface with the same porosity everywhere and dries to an even sheen.
That last point is the one most people have never been told. Paint over an unprimed patch and the patch drinks more of it than the wall around it, so the repair shows through as a dull spot even when the colour matches exactly. Priming is not caution. It is the only way the finish comes out uniform.
We take on surface prep and repair on its own, whether we are painting afterwards or you are. Call (412) 512-2438 to talk through what your walls need.
